KOHLER home generators are sold, installed and serviced through a network of KOHLER-certified dealers. The brand is now part of Rehlko, formerly Kohler Energy, and its residential generators keep the KOHLER name. Kohler's FAQ says a full installation quote requires an on-site assessment, and that the certified dealer handles the fuel source, permits and placement.
To find a Kohler generator dealer near you, open the official KOHLER Find a Dealer page, enter your ZIP code, filter for Sales, Installation or Service, and compare the dealer tiers on your shortlist. Get at least two written quotes based on an on-site visit before you sign.

Backup Generator Guide does not list Kohler dealers; for local companies, use Kohler's locator. This guide explains how it works, what Kohler's dealer tiers mean, and how warranty and service depend on your dealer.
How to Use Kohler's Dealer Locator
Kohler's Find a Dealer page shows "local KOHLER-certified generator installers near you for professional home standby generator installation, permits, and ongoing service."
- Enter your ZIP code. Results appear for dealers near that location.
- Filter by what you need. The locator offers Sales, Installation, Service and Financing filters. Kohler says offerings vary by location, so a dealer near you may not provide every service.
- Sort by distance or dealer tier. Distance matters for service calls; tier tells you how Kohler ranks the dealer (see below).
- Request a consultation. According to the locator's FAQ, certified dealers offer a free in-home consultation and a no-obligation quote, and can perform a load analysis to size the generator.
- If nothing shows up, the locator says to contact Kohler at kohlergeneratorsales@rehlko.com. Owners can also call Kohler support at 1-833-393-6650 (Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT, per the Kohler FAQ).
Kohler describes its dealers as providing turnkey installation: site assessment, delivery, installation, permits and code compliance, followed by ongoing service and maintenance.
Kohler Dealer Tiers and Certifications Explained
Kohler publishes four dealer tiers in its locator, plus a separate Titan Certified designation. These are Kohler's own descriptions:
| Designation | What Kohler says |
|---|---|
| Titanium | The highest ranking with Kohler; meets inventory, factory certification and customer support metrics |
| Platinum | The second-highest ranking; meets inventory, factory certification and customer support metrics |
| Gold | Meets inventory, factory certification and customer support metrics |
| Silver | Meets factory certification requirements |
| Titan Certified | Completes advanced certifications and meets strict service requirements |
Kohler says dealers in all four tiers "sell, install, service, and provide warranty support on KOHLER generators." A tier is not a price guarantee, and the locator does not publish the exact thresholds, so treat it as one input and judge the dealer on its written quote, service capacity and references.
Why the Installing Dealer Matters for Your Warranty
Kohler's FAQ says a new KOHLER home generator is covered by a 5-year/2,000-hour warranty. The five-year limited warranty (TP-7156) for U.S. residential and light commercial standby generator sets adds detail:
- Term: 5 years from the registered startup date (or, without one, the original purchaser's date of purchase) or 2,000 hours, whichever comes first.
- Labor and travel: included in years 1 and 2; labor and travel charges in years 3 to 5 are not covered.
- Registered startup: to have a registered startup date, an authorized distributor, dealer or service representative must start up the generator and submit the system details through the warranty portal.
- Travel limit: travel time and mileage beyond 200 miles round trip are excluded.
- Not covered: routine tune-ups and periodic service, original installation and startup costs, starting batteries, engine fluids, maintenance items such as filters and spark plugs, non-OEM replacement parts, overtime or holiday labor rates, and damage from improper installation or from failing to perform scheduled maintenance or regularly exercise the generator.
Warranty registration
Kohler's owner support page gives two options once the generator is installed:
- Dealer registration (recommended): the certified dealer who installed the generator completes the post-installation registration.
- Homeowner registration: you register the generator yourself and upload proof of purchase.
Kohler says coverage begins on the commissioning date if your dealer registers it, or defaults to the shipment date unless you provide proof of purchase.
Kohler's FAQ also says self-installation is not recommended. A self-installed generator is not eligible for Kohler's extended warranty, its warranty start date defaults to the factory ship date or purchase date (with proof of invoice), and failures caused by improper installation are not covered.
Extended warranty
Kohler's warranty and service page says certified dealers offer extended warranties of up to 10 years covering parts, labor and dealer travel, and that they can be purchased any time within the original 5-year warranty. The owner support page calls this premium coverage the Kohler Promise.
Kohler Service, Repair and Maintenance
If you already own a Kohler generator, use the locator's Service filter or Kohler's Service & Maintenance page to request service. Kohler says a comprehensive maintenance service typically includes:
- A full system inspection by a trained technician
- Oil and air filter replacement
- Battery testing
- Automatic transfer switch evaluation
- Diagnostic review and performance verification
The same page says dealer maintenance plans typically include annual or biannual visits, priority service during storm seasons and preventive inspections, and that load bank testing may be recommended. For repairs, Kohler says certified technicians use genuine parts designed for Kohler generators.
What owners can check themselves, per Kohler's owner FAQs:
- Oil level: check it after every 8 to 24 hours of operation, depending on the generator size and model. Kohler recommends 5W-30 full synthetic oil unless conventional oil was used before, and says not to mix the two.
- Oil and filter changes: the interval varies by model, so follow the operation manual for your unit.
- Exercise: the generator runs a scheduled exercise cycle, and the warranty excludes damage from failing to regularly exercise it under load.
For model-specific intervals from Kohler's manuals, see our Kohler generator maintenance guide. For maintenance plan pricing, see the whole-house generator maintenance cost guide.
Questions to Ask a Kohler Dealer
- Which dealer tier are you, and are you Titan Certified?
- Will you do an on-site assessment and a load analysis before quoting?
- Which exact model do you recommend, and what is its rated output on my fuel? (Kohler's FAQ notes RCAL models include a transfer switch, while RCA models sell it separately.)
- Does the quote include permits, the pad, fuel piping, electrical work and startup?
- Will you perform startup and register the warranty for me?
- Do you offer an extended warranty or a maintenance plan, and what exactly does it cover?
- Do you service what you install, and how quickly do you respond after a storm?
- Do you offer financing? Kohler does not offer financing directly, but many certified dealers do.
How to Compare Kohler Dealer Quotes
Because every quote depends on an on-site assessment of your fuel source, permits and placement, compare quotes on scope, not just the total:
- Same equipment: confirm the model number, fuel and transfer switch in every quote. Our model pages help you check what each unit includes: 10RESV, 12RESV, 14RCA, 20RCA, 24RCLA, 26RCA, 38RCLC, 48RCLC and 60RCLB.
- Same scope: line items for permits, pad, gas or propane work, electrical and startup.
- Warranty handling: who registers the warranty, and whether an extended warranty is included or optional.
- Service after the sale: maintenance plan terms and emergency response.
Use our quote comparison tool, read why installation quotes vary, and check typical installed-cost ranges in the whole-house generator cost guide, and see what the job involves in the whole-house generator installation guide. If you are still choosing a brand, compare Generac vs Kohler and Kohler vs Cummins, see how Kohler fits among other Generac alternatives, or return to the Kohler generator guide.
