Information you provide

The contact form asks for your name, email address, subject and message. We use those details to respond to questions, investigate corrections and manage correspondence. Submitting a message is optional; browsing the guides does not require an account.

Messages are stored through our form service, and a notification may be sent to the publication’s team. The form also supplies the page it was submitted from and timing information. Abuse screening can process an IP-derived identifier and technical request information to help detect spam and repeated submissions.

Please include only information needed for your request. Do not send passwords, payment details, private equipment-access codes or sensitive personal records.

Website usage and analytics

The site uses Google Analytics to understand visits and improve its content. Analytics can collect page views, referring pages, browser and device information, interaction events and cookie-based identifiers. Google receives technical connection information when your browser contacts its services. This information is not necessarily anonymous simply because it does not include your name.

Our hosting and infrastructure providers may also process IP addresses, request times, requested URLs, browser information and diagnostic logs to deliver the site, troubleshoot failures and protect against misuse.

Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with the site through behavioral metrics, heatmaps and session replay. These features help us identify confusing navigation and improve page layouts. Microsoft may collect page content, interactions such as clicks and scrolling, device and browser information, and online identifiers through cookies and similar technologies. Microsoft may also use this information for its own purposes, including Microsoft Advertising, as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

See Microsoft’s Clarity cookie documentation for details about the cookies used. Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on does not disable Clarity; browser controls that block Clarity requests can restrict this collection.

Cookies and your browser choices

Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity may set or read cookies to measure visits and returning browsers. You can manage or delete cookies in your browser settings and use browser privacy controls to restrict tracking. Blocking cookies alone may not prevent every analytics request.

Google offers a Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on for supported browsers. Its protection depends on it being installed and operating in the browser you use. Private browsing does not by itself prevent information from reaching website providers.

The current site does not provide a cookie-preference panel or a custom response to Do Not Track signals. This policy describes data practices; it does not treat a visit or continued browsing as consent to optional tracking.

The site loads fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser connects to Google to retrieve these resources, which exposes connection information such as your IP address and request headers to that provider.

We use service providers for hosting, form storage, site administration, analytics and message delivery. They receive information needed to perform those functions. Their infrastructure may process information outside your state or country, where privacy rules can differ.

Links to manufacturers and other websites take you to services with their own privacy policies. Information you provide directly to a manufacturer or contractor is governed by that service’s practices.

Calculator inputs

The sizing and runtime calculators perform their calculations in your browser. Their current calculation code does not submit the load worksheet or fuel inputs to our contact database. Copying or downloading a result is initiated by you. Normal page analytics and hosting requests can still occur while you use a calculator.

If you paste a result into a contact message, it becomes part of that submission. Do not include private information in custom load labels.

Use and disclosure

We use information to operate and secure the publication, respond to messages, review corrections and understand content usage. We do not operate a checkout or sell installer leads under our current commercial arrangements. See our disclosures.

Information may be disclosed to service providers supporting those purposes, when needed to comply with applicable law or legal process, or to address fraud, security incidents and threats to others’ rights or safety. The Google and Microsoft services described above also process information under their own policies.

Retention and security

Retention varies by the record and service involved. Contact correspondence, abuse records, service logs and analytics data can have different retention periods. This site does not promise a single automatic deletion deadline for all records. Copies may remain in backups or records needed for security, dispute handling or legal obligations.

No website or storage method can guarantee complete security. Use the contact form only for information appropriate for ordinary editorial correspondence.

Privacy requests and children

Use our contact page with “Privacy request” as the subject to ask about information you supplied or request access, correction or deletion. Identify the email address used for correspondence and describe your request. We may need to verify that it concerns your information. Available rights and any exceptions depend on applicable law; you may also have a right to contact your local privacy regulator.

The publication is intended for an adult audience researching home backup power, not for children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can investigate and address the record.

Changes and contact

We will post revisions on this page and update the date above. Where applicable law requires additional notice or consent for a change in processing, that requirement still applies.
