The table copies the serial ranges published on Generac's recall page. The model and serial lookup on that page is the definitive check. A generator with the same unit type but a different model number, or a serial number outside these ranges, is not listed in the recall.

How to check whether your generator is affected

  1. Find the label. CPSC says the model and serial number are printed on a label attached to the side of the unit. Health Canada describes it as being on the side of the alternator or on the frame cross member. The CPSC notice includes photos showing where the label sits on each model group.
  2. Note both numbers. The model number starts with "G00" (for example, G0081530) and the serial number is a 10-digit number.
  3. Check them with Generac. Enter them at generac.com/about/recalls/GP-Carburetor, or call Generac toll-free at 800-396-9951, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday. On generac.com you can also click "Important Recall Information".

What to do if your generator is included

  • Stop using it and check it. CPSC tells owners to stop using a recalled Generac portable generator immediately and check whether the model and serial number are included.
  • If it has never been fueled, or it leaked after fueling: contact your dealer to arrange a free repair at the dealer's location.
  • If it has already been filled without a problem: CPSC says a generator that has been filled with enough gasoline to move the fuel gauge off "E", or that has been used without any gasoline leaking, can continue to be used.

If you have trouble getting the remedy, CPSC has a recall complaint form linked from the recall notice. In Canada, Health Canada asks consumers to report health or safety incidents through its consumer product incident report form, which is linked from its recall notice.

The hazard, explained plainly

The carburetor mixes fuel with air before it goes into the engine. On the affected units, fuel can leak from the carburetor the first time the tank is filled. Gasoline is highly flammable. Leaking fuel near a hot engine, a spark or an open flame can catch fire and cause burns. That is why the recall focuses on the first fill. CPSC and Health Canada both say units that have already been filled past "E", or used without a leak, can keep being used.

Are Generac home standby generators part of this recall?

No standby models are named. The CPSC, Generac and Health Canada notices list only the GP-series portable generators shown above, within specific serial ranges. No Generac home standby (whole-house) generator models appear in the recall. If you own a standby unit and have a separate concern, contact your installing dealer or Generac with its model and serial number. Our Generac generators guide explains how the standby and portable lines differ.

Portable generator safety basics

A recalled generator is a fire risk, but carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading danger with any portable generator. CPSC's guidance:

  • Operate portable generators outside only, at least 20 feet from the house, and point the exhaust away from the home and other buildings (CPSC).
  • Never run a portable generator inside a home, garage, basement, crawlspace, shed or on a porch, or near doors, windows or vents. CPSC warns that generator exhaust can kill within minutes (CPSC).
  • Install battery-operated CO alarms, or alarms with battery backup, outside sleeping areas and on each floor, and test them monthly. If an alarm sounds or anyone feels dizzy, sick or confused, get outside immediately and call 911 (CPSC).

Connecting a portable generator to house wiring needs proper transfer equipment installed by a qualified electrician. Our generator safety guide covers operating location, refueling and connection safety. The portable generator hookup guide explains how a portable unit is safely connected to a house, and the portable generators guide covers sizing and fuel choices.

Generac portable generator recall FAQs

Which Generac generators are being recalled in 2026?

CPSC recall 26-407 covers Generac GP3600, GP4000DF, GP6500, GP6500E, GP6500EDF, GP6700EDF, GP8000E, GP9200E and GP9500ETF portable generators with specific model numbers. Only units within the serial ranges Generac lists are included. They were sold from May 2025 through February 2026.

How do I know if my Generac portable generator is recalled?

Find the model and serial number on the label on the side of the unit. Enter them at generac.com/about/recalls/GP-Carburetor or call Generac at 800-396-9951, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday.

What is wrong with the recalled Generac generators?

When a recalled generator is first filled with gasoline, fuel can leak from the carburetor, posing a fire and burn hazard. Generac had received 114 reports of fuel leaks, and no injuries had been reported.

Can I still use my recalled Generac generator?

CPSC says to stop using it and check the model and serial number first. Units that have already been filled with enough gasoline to move the gauge off "E", or have been used without any leak, can continue to be used. A unit that hasn't been fueled yet, or that leaked after fueling, should be repaired free by a dealer.

Is the repair free?

Yes. The remedy is a free repair at the dealer's location. Contact your dealer to arrange it.

Are Generac standby generators included in the recall?

No standby models are named in the recall. The CPSC, Generac and Health Canada notices list only GP-series portable generators.

Was the recall also issued in Canada?

Yes. It is a joint recall with Health Canada, which reports 263 affected units sold in Canada and no incidents there as of March 31, 2026.
