Gather the information your electrician needs
Provide the generator model, outlet details, fuel-specific output, home panel information and your intended loads. Ask the electrician to determine compatibility, including voltage, transfer equipment and the manufacturer’s neutral/bonding requirements. Do not alter bonding based on a generic online rule.

Keep the operating location part of the plan
A convenient inlet location does not make an unsafe generator location acceptable. CPSC’s portable guidance calls for outdoor operation at least 20 feet from homes with exhaust directed away.
