Does the Kohler 26RCA Include an Automatic Transfer Switch?

Confirm the exact package: 26RCA and 26RCAL are different purchasing choices. The L package is the transfer-switch bundle; do not assume a base-model equipment quote includes the switch. Require the transfer-switch model, amperage, service-entrance rating and load-management accessories as separate named items in the quote. The consumer catalog’s “Included” field can conflict with the technical-sheet options or its package FAQ. Written SKU-level confirmation is the reliable purchasing check. A generator’s kW rating alone does not determine the correct transfer switch.

Will a Kohler 26RCA Run My Whole House?

Size the 26RCA from electrical demand rather than square footage. The Kohler 26RCA is intended for homes needing more simultaneous running capacity within the air-cooled line, especially on natural gas. Use 24kW for natural-gas running loads and 26kW for propane. Account separately for the 39kVA peak starting rating and loads that can overlap. Electric heat, dryers, EV charging, pool equipment and multiple compressors can change the result substantially. A transfer switch connected to the whole service does not mean every appliance can operate at once. Have the installer validate the load calculation and any load-shedding priorities.

Can the Kohler 26RCA Run Two A/C Systems?

The 26RCA has a published 39kVA peak motor-starting rating, but compatibility with your HVAC system requires a load calculation. Its continuous output is 24kW on natural gas or 26kW on propane. Compressor starting amps, other loads already running and permissible voltage dip determine whether it can start the equipment. Ask the installer to model the largest start with the other selected loads online; soft starters or load management may change the result.

How Much Does a Kohler 26RCA Cost?

Kohler’s starting equipment MSRP for the 26RCA is $7,546, checked September 30, 2026. That is not an installed price.

A complete quote should itemize the generator, compatible transfer switch, battery, foundation, electrical and fuel work, permits, commissioning, registration and any load controls or cold-weather accessories. Long trenching runs, gas-meter upgrades and changes to service panels can materially change the total. Compare equivalent scopes from local installers; no national installed average is asserted here.

How Much Propane Does the Kohler 26RCA Use?

The Kohler 26RCA uses 85 cubic feet per hour at 50% load and 129 at full load on LP vapor.

Load LP vapor, ft³/hr Approx. liquid propane, gal/hr
25% 64 1.76
50% 85 2.34
75% 111 3.05
100% 129 3.54

These are the 60Hz technical-sheet figures checked September 30, 2026. Actual consumption depends on load and fuel conditions. Gallons per hour are calculated from the manufacturer’s factor of 36.39 ft³ of LP vapor per gallon; cubic metres per hour must not be read as gallons per hour.

How Long Will a 500-Gallon Propane Tank Run a 26RCA?

A nominal 500-gallon tank filled to 80% holds about 400 gallons. At constant full load, 400 ÷ 3.54 gives roughly 113 hours; at half load, 400 ÷ 2.34 gives roughly 171 hours.

This is fuel arithmetic, not a guaranteed usable runtime. Keep a reserve; the generator may lose fuel delivery before the tank is empty. Cold weather, tank size, vaporization capacity, regulator sizing and other propane appliances affect performance. Have the propane supplier size the tank and delivery system for the generator’s full-load demand.

Will My Natural-Gas Meter Handle the Kohler 26RCA?

Have the gas utility and installer check the full connected load; the 26RCA alone requires 290 ft³/hr at full load in the current technical table. Add furnaces, water heaters and other gas appliances. Pipe diameter also depends on length, fittings, pressure and permissible pressure drop. The generator’s inlet connection size is not a sizing instruction for the complete supply run.

How Loud Is the Kohler 26RCA?

The current consumer catalog lists 56 dBA during exercise and 67 dBA during operation for the 26RCA. The linked technical sheet uses a different sound figure or measurement description, so the catalog and PDF values should not be treated as interchangeable tests. These are published test figures, not a guarantee at your property line. Distance, load, measurement method, walls and reflections change what neighbors hear. Ask the installer to review placement and local noise rules.

Is the Kohler 26RCA Power Safe for Electronics?

The model uses digital voltage regulation, but the complete installation and load behavior still affect power quality. The catalog lists ±1% regulation. Check the technical sheet’s harmonic-distortion limits and test conditions for your exact alternator, especially with nonlinear loads. Sensitive equipment may still need its specified protection; generator specifications do not replace that equipment’s power requirements.

Does Remote Monitoring Cost Extra?

The RDC2 platform supports remote monitoring through the KOHLER Energy Management app. Kohler markets the app as free; connectivity hardware and cellular service are separate purchasing questions. Confirm the installed connection, outage internet availability and any data-plan renewal costs. Remote status does not replace oil checks or scheduled maintenance.

What Maintenance Does a Kohler 26RCA Need?

TP-7092 lists standard oil service yearly or at 150 hours, filter replacement with each oil change, and oil checks every 24 operating hours. Use the complete current manual for air-filter, ignition, battery and other service tasks. Severe conditions may require shorter intervals; match the manual to your model and serial number. The manual separately permits a premium 10W-50 extended-life oil schedule of two years or 300 hours for this model; that interval requires the specified oil and conditions.
