Does the Kohler 14RCA Include a Transfer Switch?
Confirm the exact package: 14RCA and 14RCAL are different purchasing choices. The L package is the transfer-switch bundle; do not assume a base-model equipment quote includes the switch. Require the transfer-switch model, amperage, service-entrance rating and load-management accessories as separate named items in the quote. A generator’s kW rating alone does not determine the correct transfer switch.

Does the Kohler 14RCA Include a Battery?
The starting battery must be explicitly included in your purchase and installation scope. The specification calls for a 12V Group 51 battery rated at least 500 CCA at 0°F. Verify terminal layout, hold-down fit and any cold-weather accessories for the exact unit.

Is a Kohler 14RCA Big Enough for My House?
Size the 14RCA from electrical demand rather than square footage. The Kohler 14RCA is intended for smaller and mid-sized homes where motor starting matters more than a small increase in running capacity. Use 12kW for natural-gas running loads and 14kW for propane. Account separately for the 33kVA peak starting rating and loads that can overlap. Electric heat, dryers, EV charging, pool equipment and multiple compressors can change the result substantially. A transfer switch connected to the whole service does not mean every appliance can operate at once. Have the installer validate the load calculation and any load-shedding priorities.

Can the Kohler 14RCA Start a 5-Ton Air Conditioner?
The 14RCA has a published 33kVA peak motor-starting rating, but compatibility with your HVAC system requires a load calculation. Its continuous output is 12kW on natural gas or 14kW on propane. Compressor starting amps, other loads already running and permissible voltage dip determine whether it can start the equipment. Ask the installer to model the largest start with the other selected loads online; soft starters or load management may change the result.

How Much Does a Kohler 14RCA Cost Installed?
Kohler’s starting equipment MSRP for the 14RCA is $5,098, checked September 30, 2026. That is not an installed price.
A complete quote should itemize the generator, compatible transfer switch, battery, foundation, electrical and fuel work, permits, commissioning, registration and any load controls or cold-weather accessories. Long trenching runs, gas-meter upgrades and changes to service panels can materially change the total. Compare equivalent scopes from local installers; no national installed average is asserted here.

How Much Propane Does the Kohler 14RCA Use?
The Kohler 14RCA uses 60 cubic feet per hour at 50% load and 81 at full load on LP vapor.
| Load | LP vapor, ft³/hr | Approx. liquid propane, gal/hr |
|---|---|---|
| 25% | 45 | 1.24 |
| 50% | 60 | 1.65 |
| 75% | 75 | 2.06 |
| 100% | 81 | 2.23 |
These are the 60Hz technical-sheet figures checked September 30, 2026. Actual consumption depends on load and fuel conditions. Gallons per hour are calculated from the manufacturer’s factor of 36.39 ft³ of LP vapor per gallon; cubic metres per hour must not be read as gallons per hour.

How Long Will a 500-Gallon Propane Tank Run a Kohler 14RCA?
A nominal 500-gallon tank filled to 80% holds about 400 gallons. At constant full load, 400 ÷ 2.23 gives roughly 180 hours; at half load, 400 ÷ 1.65 gives roughly 243 hours.
This is fuel arithmetic, not a guaranteed usable runtime. Keep a reserve; the generator may lose fuel delivery before the tank is empty. Cold weather, tank size, vaporization capacity, regulator sizing and other propane appliances affect performance. Have the propane supplier size the tank and delivery system for the generator’s full-load demand.

What Size Natural-Gas Line Does a Kohler 14RCA Need?
Have the gas utility and installer check the full connected load; the 14RCA alone requires 193 ft³/hr at full load in the current technical table. Add furnaces, water heaters and other gas appliances. Pipe diameter also depends on length, fittings, pressure and permissible pressure drop. The generator’s inlet connection size is not a sizing instruction for the complete supply run.
