Generator load management controls which loads operate together so the backup demand stays within the system’s capabilities. It can prioritize important circuits, but it does not increase the generator’s continuous output.

Generac’s 50A Smart Management Module manual describes priority settings that control the order in which loads return after a shedding event. This is a discussion worksheet, not a recommended priority order for every household. Tell the installer about any equipment that cannot tolerate interruption; do not assume a managed circuit can serve it.
Compare management with a larger generator
Request two itemized proposals: one for the agreed managed-load plan and one for the required simultaneous loads. Compare generator size, fuel supply changes, controls, installation and ongoing service. Include the practical cost of appliances being temporarily unavailable.
Ask for a commissioning demonstration that matches the written plan. Keep a copy showing each managed appliance, its priority and the expected recovery behavior. Use the quote checklist to record the difference between proposals.
Does load management reduce starting demand?

What should a managed-load demonstration show?
A managed-load demonstration should show which loads are deferred, what triggers the decision and how power returns to those loads.
